The following factors could affect Italian markets on Thursday.

    POLITICS
    The International Criminal Court demanded answers from Italy
on Wednesday over why it freed a Libyan man suspected of crimes
against humanity and war crimes, including murder, torture, rape
and sexual violence.
    
    DEBT
    Treasury announces sale of BTP Short and BTPei bonds, with
relative amounts to be auctioned on Jan. 28.
    
    COMPANIES
    TELECOM ITALIA  TLIT.MI  
    The phone group said on Wednesday it agreed to push back to
March 15 a deadline to agree a sale of its subsea cable unit
Sparkle to a consortium comprising Italy's Treasury and Spanish
fund Asterion.
    An appeals court rejected an Italian government request to
suspend a 1 billion euro payment to TIM pending a final decision
in a dispute linked to the liberalisation of the telecoms
sector, the ruling showed on Wednesday.
    
    STELLANTIS  STLAM.MI  
    The automaker is moving forward with plans to build a new
midsize pickup truck in Belvidere, Illinois, the company said on
Wednesday, ending months of conflict with the United Auto
Workers union over delays, and strengthening its U.S. production
footprint as President Donald Trump takes office.
    
    UNICREDIT  CRDI.MI  
    Commerzbank said on Wednesday that it would only engage in
talks with UniCredit over a possible combination of the two
European banks if the Italian suitor makes a proposal for a
transaction, which has so far not been forthcoming.
    The German bank defined UniCredit's approach for a potential
tie-up as "hostile", and said there had been no discussion of it
with the Italian bank in the past two years, despite UniCredit
CEO Andrea Orcel saying there had.
    
    SNAM  SRG.MI , ENI  ENI.MI  
    The Italian gas grid operator is studying a binding offer
for a stake in Eni's carbon capture business that could be
submitted next month, Snam CEO Stefano Venier said on Wednesday.
    
    SAIPEM  SPMI.MI  
    The shareholders' agreement between Eni and CDP Equity,
controlling 25% of the company, has been tacitly renewed for
another three years, Saipem said on Wednesday.
    
    ILLIMITY  ILTY.MI 
    The Italian digital bank said on Wednesday that it had
appointed Jefferies and Wepartners as financial advisers in the
buyout offer launched by rival Banca Ifis  IF.MI .
