ECONOMY
(*) The European Central Bank must be pragmatic and data-driven in setting its interest rates, governing council member Fabio Panetta said on Wednesday in a letter to the Financial Times.
Panetta, who is the governor of the Bank of Italy, said in the current period of acute uncertainty the ECB should focus mainly on inflation projections rather than on trying to calculate a supposed neutral interest rate.

Treasury sells 2.5-3.0 billion euros 2.55% BTP Short bonds due Feb. 25, 2027 and 1.0-1.5 billion euros 1.50% BTPei bonds due May 15, 2029. Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT.

The television group controlled by Italy's Berlusconi family, has called a board meeting on Wednesday to review a possible bid for German peer ProSiebenSat.1, three sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

A group of Banco BPM investors, holding 6.51% of the lender, said on Tuesday they backed a plan which envisages a standalone growth of the bank, a statement said, indirectly expressing its opposition to a bid launched by UniCredit.

The world's largest cable maker on Wednesday forecast its core profit to reach up to 3.15 billion euros ($3.40 billion) in the next three years, up 64% from 2024, boosted in part by its acquisition of U.S. connectivity device manufacturer Channell.

The Italian bad loan manager said on Wednesday it had signed a deal with the National Bank of Greece for a 700-million-euro securitisation involving a Greek portfolio consisting primarily of secured non-performing loans.

Moody's on Tuesday upgraded its rating to Ba1 from Ba2, with a positive outlook, saying this reflected the company's improved operating performance.
TERNA TRN.MI
Italy's power grid operator on Tuesday increased its planned investments for the next five years by 7% to 17.7 billion euros and slightly increased its 2028 financial targets. Its CEO said the company could open up capital of its non-regulated activities.
Moody's and S&P confirmed ratings for the company, Baa2 and BBB+ respectively, with a stable outlook.
PIRELLI PIRC.MI
Chinese and Italian shareholders in Pirelli are at odds over the group's governance, two sources said, with the Chinese investor potentially a hurdle for the Italian tyremaker's plans to do more business in the United States.
