* UK BUDGET: British finance minister Rachel Reeves should break election pledges not to raise taxes on working people so she can build "real fiscal headroom" in her budget this month, the Confederation of British Industry said.
* SANTANDER: Santander is set to appoint an insider as its next UK chief executive, with group chief risk officer, Mahesh Aditya, and UK retail and business bank head, Enrique Alvarez Labiano, lined up as the shortlisted candidates, the Financial Times reported.
* UK BANKS: British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves is set to spare banks from a punitive budget tax raid, after making it clear to colleagues she wants the sector to remain competitive and able to support the country’s growth, the Financial Times reported.
* COMMODITIES: Oil prices were largely flat early on Thursday, Shanghai copper rose and Gold dipped .
* UK's FTSE 100 .FTSE scaled a fresh record close after starting on a quiet note.
* EX-DIVS: HSBC holdings PLC HSBA.L and Airtel Africa PLC AAF.L will trade without entitlement to its latest dividend pay-out.
