U.S. stocks gained on Tuesday amid choppy trading that could see the Dow log a
12-day rally ahead of quarterly earnings reports from megacap technology
companies Alphabet GOOGL.O and Microsoft MSFT.O, and a rate hike by the Federal
Reserve.  .N 
    
    At 13:38 ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average  .DJI  was up 0.23% at
35,491.27. The S&P 500  .SPX  was up 0.41% at 4,573.42 and the Nasdaq Composite
 .IXIC  was up 0.86% at 14,179.509.
