- Japan's second-largest oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan 5019.T shut one of the two crude distillation units at its Yokkaichi refinery in central Japan on September 28 for scheduled maintenance, a company spokesperson said on Friday.

  • The spokesperson declined to comment on the timing of the restart.

  • The Yokkaichi refinery's total processing capacity was reduced by 30,000 barrels per day to 225,000 bpd from April 1 after the company's alliance with Cosmo Oil ended in March.

  • The spokesperson declined to identify which unit's capacity was cut, but Japanese energy research firm RIM Intelligence said the No.2 CDU's capacity was cut to 70,000 bpd while the No.3 unit remained at 155,000 bpd.

  • RIM said in a report that the No.2 unit went offline last month for maintenance.

  • In April, Idemitsu also cut capacity at its Aichi refinery by 2,000 bpd to 163,000 bpd and its Keihin refinery by 10,000 bpd to 60,000 bpd while increasing Chiba refinery capacity by 5,000 bpd to 200,000 bpd.
