- Industrial action at Inpex's 1605.T Ichthys liquefied natural gas facilities continued on Friday after a hearing on the Japanese firm's application to halt the strikes was postponed to Saturday.

Australia's Fair Work Commission (FWC) confirmed to Reuters that the hearing for the matter was deferred to June 13.

Here are the details:

  • The hearing was originally scheduled for Friday, with Inpex set to seek urgent orders from the workplace tribunal to halt protected industrial action at the facility where 400 workers planned to escalate their strike on Thursday.

  • Inpex's push to halt the strike under section 424 of the Fair Work Act comes as negotiations between the gas producer and the Offshore Alliance failed to resolve key pay and conditions claims.

  • A supply disruption in the Ichthys LNG facilities, which accounts about 10% of Australia's crude, would further tighten global crude markets reeling from losses from the Iran war and Tehran's announcement that it was closing the critical Strait of Hormuz.

  • The labor action follows a six-month period of bargaining, according to an Alliance spokesman, and would include a ban on loading cargoes of LNG and condensate, a type of light oil.
