    Italy's deputy central bank governor Piero Cipollone was the
only candidate put forward by euro zone governments to succeed
European Central Bank Executive Board member Fabio Panetta, the
head of euro zone finance ministers said in a statement on
Wednesday.
    
    The partner of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has
been accused of victim blaming after comments he made about rape
on his television talk show.

    Swiss asset manager Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) is
working on the details of a potential offer to buy a minority
stake in Plenitude, the low carbon unit of Italian energy group
Eni, two sources said on Wednesday.

    Italian prosecutors are investigating a 928 million euro ($1
billion) contract to build a dam off the harbour of the
northwestern city of Genoa awarded to a consortium led by
Webuild, a person with direct knowledge of the investigation
said on Wednesday.

    Iren confirmed the appointment of Paolo Emilio
