EBRD partners with Ameriabank to support green finance for Armenia's private
sector
Lion Finance Group PLC (the "Group") announces that its banking subsidiary in
Armenia, Ameriabank CJSC (the "Bank" or "Ameriabank"), has secured a loan
package of up to EUR 150 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and
Development (EBRD). This facility, provided in two tranches - an initial
€100 million commitment and a further €50 million - will enable Ameriabank
to deliver financing to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with
a strong focus on reaching regional clients and new borrowers.
This facility is designed to support Armenia's transition to a green economy.
Ameriabank will allocate a minimum of 40% of the proceeds to eligible green
investments focused on increasing resource efficiency and renewable energy
generation. This green financing is reinforced by a technical cooperation
package of approximately EUR 170,000, funded by the EBRD's Small Business
Impact Fund and co-supported by Ameriabank, which will ensure effective
project implementation and monitoring. Furthermore, the initiative is
complemented by up to EUR 75,000 in EU-funded advisory and capacity-building
programmes designed to enhance the competitiveness, innovation, and export
readiness of local MSMEs.
George Akhalkatsi, the EBRD's Head of Armenia, said: "This facility will play
a key role in strengthening Armenia's private sector and accelerating its
green transition. Ameriabank's strong market presence and commitment to
innovation and the development of the MSME sector make it a strong partner for
the EBRD's strategic priorities in the region."
Artak Hanesyan, CEO of Ameriabank commented: "We are proud to be strengthening
our partnership with the EBRD and expanding our MSME and green lending
portfolios. This collaboration will enhance our ability to support Armenian
businesses, drive economic growth and promote sustainable development
throughout the country."
Archil Gachechiladze, CEO of Lion Finance Group PLC, commented: "We are
delighted to deepen our partnership with EBRD. This collaboration will enable
Ameriabank, the largest lender in Armenia, to further support local businesses
and green projects, in line with the Group's commitment to financial inclusion
and sustainable value-creation."
