OSLO, Feb 3 (Reuters) - The Lithuanian-Polish power
interconnection started normal operations on Wednesday after a
trial period, the Baltic state's grid operator Litgrid said.
The 500-megawatt (MW) link was put in place last year and
has operated in a trial mode since December, opening a new route
for electricity from the Nordic countries to reach central
Europe via the Baltic states.
The link would also allow Lithuania to import power from
Poland, reducing its dependence on imports from Russia.
On Wednesday, transmission capacity from Lithuania to Poland
was available at maximum for most of the day, while capacities
from Poland to Lithuania were limited to 300 MW.
The Baltic state imported about 70 percent of electricity
last year, making it the European Union member state most
dependable on electricity imports.
