POLITICS
Italy's parliament on Saturday approved a reform that loosens controls and sanctions regarding public tenders, amid protests from magistrates and opposition lawmakers who say it will encourage wasteful spending and possible illegality.
Italian prosecutors said on Saturday they had arrested nine people on suspicion of financing Hamas through charities based in Italy, in an operation coordinated by anti-mafia and anti-terrorism units.
(*) The Cabinet meets to approve a new package of aid and weapons for Ukraine, and possibly set a date for a referendum on a reform to the judicial system.
ECONOMY
(*) The Italian government faces a confidence vote over its 2026 budget in the Chamber of Deputies late on Monday, ahead of a final approval of the package scheduled for Tuesday.

Treasury sells 6-month BOT bills and BTP Short bonds. Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT.
ENERGY
(*) Italy can count on gas supplies covering little more than 50% of demand and risks finding itself "on our knees" in the case of damage to large pipelines, Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin told la Repubblica's weekly supplement Affari & Finanza on Monday.
Pichetto Fratin added that for this reason he would not order the full dismantling of Italy's coal facilities.

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Leapmotor 9863.HK expects to sell more than 4 million vehicles a year within the next decade, CEO Zhu Jiangming said on Monday. He added that the group aims to sell 1 million cars in 2026, supported by a global expansion strategy in partnership with Stellantis.
Franco-Italian carmaker Stellantis has a 21% stake in Leapmotor and is part of a joint venture that gives it exclusive rights to export, sell and manufacture the Chinese firm's EVs outside Greater China.

The Italian Treasury is considering selling a 15% stake in the national air traffic controller, lowering its controlling holding to around 38%, la Repubblica daily reported on Sunday.
MAIRE MTCM.MI
The Italian engineering group said on December 24 its subsidiary NextChem had agreed to buy 100% of Ballestra, a global player in chemical plant design and proprietary technologies, for about 126.5 million euros.
The deal covers Ballestra S.p.A. in Italy, Buss ChemTech AG in Switzerland and Ballestra Engineering and Projects Pvt Ltd in India, adding around 450 employees and expanding Maire’s portfolio in sustainable fertilizers, oleochemical detergents, fluorine derivatives and gas-liquid reactor design.
NEXI NEXII.MI
French payment processing company Worldline WLN.PA has no plans to merge with Italian peer Nexi or to sell any of its activities in Italy, Worldline's CEO Pierre-Antoine Vacheron told Italian daily la Repubblica on Saturday.
MONTE DEI PASCHI (MPS) BMPS.MI
MPS is close to getting approval from the European Central Bank to changes to its by-laws that would allow the Italian lender's board to submit a list of nominees for its renewal, Corriere della Sera daily reported on Saturday.
The board's own list is likely to be the only one presented to name a majority of board members, the paper added, as key shareholders are not expected to submit competing slates despite having the power to do so.

In Saturday matches, Lazio drew 1-1 at Udinese and Juventus won 2-0 away at Pisa.
