Spain's Mapfre net profit rises on non-life performance, higher investment income

By Marta Serafinko and Mireia Merino

April 29 (Reuters) - Spanish insurer Mapfre MAP.MC said on Wednesday its net profit in the first quarter rose 12.7% driven primarily by its non-life insurance business amid the absence of large catastrophe losses, as well as higher financial income from portfolio yields and realised gains.

The company's net profit increased to 310.9 million euros ($363.8 million) compared with 275.9 million euros in the same period of the previous year, while premiums fell to 8.4 billion euros, hit by currency movements.

The insurer said it would pay a final dividend of 11 cents gross per share on May 28.
