WARSAW, May 6 (Reuters) - The following are significant news stories, press reports and events on Wednesday. ALL TIMES GMT (Poland: GMT + 2 hours):

POLISH PRIME MINISTER IN ROME

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will visit Rome and the Vatican on Thrusday. Tusk will meet with the Pope and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The prime ministers will discuss security, further support for Ukraine, the competitiveness of the European economy, and the European Union enlargement process, the government press office reported.

POLISH PRESIDENT IN LITHUANIA

On Wednesday, Polish President Karol Nawrocki will visit Lithuania to observe the "Brave Griffin 26-II" military exercises. He will also meet with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.

INTEREST RATES

The Polish Monetary Policy Council (MPC) will announce its decision on interest rates on Wednesday. Analysts polled by Reuters expect rates to remain unchanged, with the main rate remaining at 3.75%.

DEFENSE DAY

On Wednesday, an international Defence Days conference will be held in Warsaw, dedicated to defense and security issues, with the participation of representatives of the Polish government, the Polish army, and the defense ministers of Slovakia, Estonia, and Latvia.

GAZ-SYSTEM

Polish pipeline operator Gaz-System will offer additional transmission capacity for long-term gas exports to Ukraine at an auction scheduled for July 6, it said on Tuesday.
