HOUSTON, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Brazil's Petroleo Brasileiro
PETR4.SA is working with Japanese engineering firm Modec Inc
to avoid delays bringing on a fifth production platform for its
giant Buzios oilfield, the head of the Buzios project said on
Monday.
Petrobras proposed nine platforms for Buzios, its fastest
growing deepwater project, in its 2021-2025 business plan. Four
are now operating, and a fifth has been scheduled to begin
production in the second half of 2022.
The field could support 12 floating, production, storage and
offloading (FPSO) units in the next decade, said Marcio Kahn,
who runs the Buzios project for Petrobras. Those 12 would allow
Petrobras to expand crude oil production at Buzios to over 2
million barrels per day, from about 600,000 bpd now,
"Buzios is a signature, huge field. It's very aligned with
our strategy," said Kahn.
Modec is expected to deliver and operate the fifth FPSO next
year, while a sixth facility for Buzios would arrive in 2024.
Petrobras started oil output at Buzios in 2018, and since
has produced some 400 million barrels. The field last year
represented 34% of the company's oil output in the pre-salt
region.
"We are very proud of all of our achievements, but now we
want more, applying ultra deep innovation to bring sustainable,
reliable energy," he said.
