** Australian gold stocks .AXGD rises ~6% so far this week; set for strongest weekly performance since August 8

** Sub-index set for fifth consecutive week of gains

** Gold prices climbed and were headed for strongest week in three months, buoyed by mounting bets for U.S. rate cut this month GOL/

** Miners Ora Banda Mining OBM.AX, Regis Resources RRL.AX top gainers on AXGD, rising 8.6% and 4.1%, respectively

** AXGD last up 1%, taking YTD gains to ~62%
