PACCAR beats quarterly estimates on strong truck orders
PACCAR beats quarterly estimates on strong truck orders July 28 (Reuters) - PACCAR PCAR.O beat Wall Street estimates for the second quarter on Tuesday, driven by strong customer orders and resilient demand for its premium vehicles, sending its shares up more than 1% in premarket trading.
Truck makers have been navigating a mixed freight market, but demand for newer, fuel-efficient and premium heavy-duty trucks has remained resilient as fleet operators replace aging vehicles.
Strong orders boosted truck build rates during the quarter, while growth in PACCAR's higher-margin parts and services business provided additional support.
Revenue from PACCAR's parts segment rose 1.5% to $1.75 billion in the second quarter from a year earlier.
The company reported profit of $1.43 per share for the quarter, topping analysts' average estimate of $1.35 per share, according to data compiled by LSEG.
Quarterly revenue rose 0.5% at $7.55 billion from a year earlier, exceeding analysts' expectations of $7.26 billion.
PACCAR delivered 38,700 new trucks during the quarter, compared with 39,300 a year earlier.
The company, which makes Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF trucks, also operates financial services businesses that provide financing and leasing solutions to dealers and customers.
