Volkswagen owners put dividends before workers, says German union
Volkswagen owners put dividends before workers, says German union BERLIN, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Volkswagen's VOWG_p.DE owner families appear willing to put dividends before the livelihoods of workers, a spokesperson for the IG Metall union said on Friday, after the families' holding group increased pressure on stakeholders to restructure.
"For IG Metall, the focus is on the families of VW employees, not the owner families. To secure their dividends, the latter seem willing to jeopardize the livelihoods of those who have generated these profits in the first place over many years," the spokesperson said.
"This is irresponsible and simply unfair to our colleagues at the plants," he added, reiterating the union's opposition to plant closures in Germany.
