Volkswagen workers, Lower Saxony submit alternative turnaround proposals, sources say BERLIN, Aug 25 (Reuters) - Volkswagen's VOWG_p.DE labour representatives and major shareholder Lower Saxony have drawn up alternative turnaround proposals for the automaker which they plan to introduce at a supervisory board meeting next week, three people familiar with the matter said.
The plans rival a proposal put forward by Volkswagen's management - including job cuts and possible plant closures - highlighting just how deep the conflict over the scope of Volkswagen's overhaul runs among its stakeholders.
A proposed restructuring sought by CEO Oliver Blume failed to get the necessary support of the supervisory board in July. It is next scheduled to meet on September 4, according to sources familiar with the talks.
Spokespeople for Volkswagen's supervisory board, the works council and Lower Saxony, Volkswagen's second-biggest shareholder, declined to comment.
