    THE GLOBE AND MAIL
    ** Canadian oil sands companies plan to spend more than C$24
billion ($17.40 billion) on emissions-reduction projects by
2030, as they accelerate their bid to get production to net zero
by 2050.
    ** The head of Vale SA's  VALE3.SA  base metals group is
vowing to turn around its poorly performing Canadian nickel
operations, as the Brazilian mining giant makes a play for a
bigger piece of the fast-growing EV-battery-minerals market.
    ** Netflix Inc  NFLX.O  will launch its new ad-supported
tier in November in Canada and 11 other countries as it fights
for fresh eyeballs in the crowded streaming market it helped
establish.

    ** Communitech announced Thursday that it added 26 companies
to its Team True North, an initiative launched this summer that
initially tapped 35 private companies that the incubator reckons
have the potential to generate C$1 billion ($724.95 million) in
revenue by 2030 and become global in players their industries.
    ** Australia's Vital Metals Ltd  VML.AX  walked away from
two Quebec-based projects earlier this week due to objections
from the Kebaowek First Nation, the latest evidence that
maximizing Canada's potential to be a player in the energy
transition will require a more sophisticated relationship with
Indigenous communities.
