Pluspetrol-led consortium to assess gas potential in Peru's Amazon
Pluspetrol-led consortium to assess gas potential in Peru's Amazon LIMA, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Peru's state-owned agency Perupetro said on Monday that the Camisea Consortium, led by Pluspetrol, signed an agreement with the government to evaluate the natural gas potential of an Amazon area in the Cusco region.
The two-year agreement gives the consortium the first option to negotiate future license contracts for hydrocarbon exploration and production in all or part of the study area.
State-run Perupetro described the zone as one of the country's most geologically significant areas
Perupetro identified the areas under evaluation as CXVII and CXIX
The areas neighbor Peru's largest gas reserve, which the Camisea Consortium has operated for two decades
The consortium also includes Hunt Oil, SK Innovation, Repsol, Sonatrach and Tecpetrol
Camisea gas is the largest source of electricity generation in Peru
Part of the reserve is exported as liquefied natural gas, mainly to markets in Asia and Europe
