Muji operator issues record profit forecast after third-quarter leap
Muji operator issues record profit forecast after third-quarter leap TOKYO, July 10 (Reuters) - Japan's Ryohin Keikaku 7453.T booked a 54% rise in third-quarter profit on Friday as strong overseas sales and a weaker yen generated higher-than-anticipated profit.
The Muji store operator hiked its annual profit forecast for the year ending August 2026 by 10% to 98 billion yen ($606 million) from 89 billion yen.
The firm booked operating profit of 35.7 billion yen for March-May, compared with 23.3 billion yen for the same period a year earlier.
Revenue growth in the overseas business was stronger than it expected and a weak yen over the period boosted profit.
The East Asia business drove overall growth, within which the mainland China business experienced sales growth across all categories.
The firm would set a full-year operating profit record if it achieves its forecast of 98 billion yen.
Ryohin Keikaku maintained its foreign exchange rate plan for the fourth quarter of its financial year. The firm makes use of currency swaps to manage exchange rate fluctuation, considering potential movement two to three years in the future, President Satoshi Shimizu told a press briefing on Friday.
