** Earlier in the session, gold explorer rose as much as 15.6% to a three-year high of A$0.37

** STN gets high gold recovery results after metallurgical test work at its Apollo Hill gold project in Western Australia

** About 1.4 mln shares change hands higher than its 30-day average of over 1 mln

** Stock is up ~70% YTD, including the session's move
