Italy - Factors to watch on Sept. 13

The following factors could affect Italian markets on Wednesday.

    POLITICS
     The Italian island of Lampedusa is struggling with a record
number of landings from boat migrants, local officials said on
Tuesday, describing the situation as "dramatic."
    
    DEBT
    Treasury sells following BTP bonds: 2.75-3.25 billion euros 
3.85% due Sept. 15, 2026; 3.5-4.0 billion euros 4.0% due Nov.
15, 2030; 1.0-1.5 billion euros 4.5% due Oct. 1, 2053; 0.75-1.0
billion euros 5.0% due Sept. 1, 2040. Subscriptions close at
0900 GMT.

    BANKS
    Italian banks should be able to deduct from their overall
tax bill the windfall tax on income deriving from higher
interest rates which the government plans to introduce, industry
lobby ABI said on Tuesday.

    Italy's biggest bank is discussing with the Egyptian
government the possible purchase of a further 20% stake in local
lender Alexbank, a spokesperson for Intesa said confirming
comments by a top executive at an event in Milan reported by
Egypt's Zawya news agency. Intesa already owns 80% of AlexBank.

    Algeria, Egypt and Libya will be Italy's main gas suppliers
for the next few years, Eni's head of natural resources told
Reuters, adding that the energy group would invest heavily in
Africa both in exploration and in new low-carbon projects.

    Talks between the Detroit Three automakers and United Auto
Workers union are nearing a Thursday night deadline to reach a
deal on a new contract before a potential walkout by 146,000
U.S. autoworkers.
    Stellantis on Monday made another counteroffer after the
union made a revised offer on Sunday and could make another one
on Tuesday, a source said.
