The following factors could affect Italian markets on Friday.

    POLITICS
    Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni defended Elon Musk's
growing involvement in politics on Thursday and said she had
never discussed with him a potential deal to supply secure
communications to Italy.
    Meloni, one of the European leaders closest to Donald Trump,
also said she believed the U.S. president-elect would defend
Western interests once he took office and would not abandon
Ukraine. 
        
    ECONOMY
    ISTAT releases November retail sales data (0900 GMT).
    
    DEBT
    Foreign investors bought 76.7% of a new ten-year BTP bond
and 80.2% of a new 20-year green BTPvia a syndicated auction,
the Italian Treasury said on Thursday.
    Treasury sells 8.0 billion euros 12-month BOT bills.
Subscriptions close at 1000 GMT.
    
    COMPANIES
    MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA  BMPS.MI 
    Italy's Delfin, the holding of the Del Vecchio family, has
increased its stake in the lender to 9.78% from 3.5%, becoming
the bank's largest private investor behind the Treasury, a
filing from market watchdog Consob showed on Thursday.
    As of January 6, the same filing showed, French investment
bank Natixis held a 6.398% stake in the Italian bank, mostly
through derivatives.
    
    TELECOM ITALIA (TIM)  TLIT.MI 
    CEO Pietro Labriola told an investor meeting this week he
remains confident of achieving the financial targets set under
the current business plan when he presents an update next month,
two people who attended the meeting said. Labriola also said he
plans to wait for the sale of subsea cable unit Sparkle and the
outcome of a court case over a financial claim versus the state
before approaching top shareholder Vivendi  VIV.PA  to sound
them out over capital structure options, the people said.
