Oct 30 (Reuters) - SiriusXM SIRI.O posted a smaller-than-expected third-quarter fall in subscribers directly paying for its satellite radio service, driven by demand for its exclusive content line-up, including shows from popular radio host Stephen A. Smith.
Shares of the company were up about 5% in premarket trading after it reported results on Thursday.
The audio entertainment provider benefits from a diversified model that combines music, sports, talk shows and exclusive programming, with distribution via automakers, apps and connected devices.
It saw demand for its live and curated music content - including Taylor Swift's Channel 13 that played her music around the clock.
SiriusXM began the third quarter with the launch of SiriusXM Play, a new lower-cost and ad-supported subscription plan.
Earlier this month, it renewed its agreement with journalist Megyn Kelly, expanding the partnership to include the upcoming Megyn Kelly Channel.
Self-pay subscribers decreased by about 40,000 in the reported quarter, lower than the 64,800 losses expected, according to Visible Alpha.
The company slightly raised its forecast for full-year revenue and now expects it to be about $8.53 billion, compared to a prior projection of $8.5 billion.
It reported third-quarter revenue of $2.16 billion, largely in line with expectations.
Advertising revenue from its Pandora and Off-platform segments rose 2% due to higher sales generated from podcasts and technology fees.
