TV maker TCL mulls spinning off photovoltaic business
TV maker TCL mulls spinning off photovoltaic business Aug 24 (Reuters) - China's consumer electronics maker TCL Electronics 1070.HK said on Monday it is weighing a spinoff and separate listing of its photovoltaic business segment to sharpen focus on its smart home appliances.
The spinoff remains at a preliminary deliberation stage and no application has been made to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the company said.
The photovoltaic segment sells solar power generation equipment and systems, and provides construction, operation and maintenance services.
The move comes months after TCL agreed to buy a 51% stake in a joint venture holding Japan's Sony Group's 6758.T global home entertainment business, including Bravia televisions, in a deal announced in late March.
In early July, the company forecast a 40% to 50% rise in half-year profit, mainly underpinned by its TV, display and internet businesses that accounted for three-fourths of the company's revenue in 2025.
TCL is due to report its half-year results on Friday.
