** Co says Sparc Hydrogen and University of Adelaide wins A$2.75 mln ($1.81 mln) under Australia's Economic Accelerator Innovate grant program, to support plant that generates green hydrogen from water

** Sparc Hydrogen is a partnership between SPN, Fortescue Ltd FMG.AX and University of Adelaide

** About 493,000 shares changed hands so far, nearly 4x 30-day average

** Stock rose 6.7% earlier in the session to hit highest level since June 25

** Stock is down 3% YTD, including the day's move
