Target says it does not use customer data to raise prices
Target says it does not use customer data to raise prices Oct 15 (Reuters) - Target TGT.N said on Thursday that it was not using customer data to raise prices based on shoppers' identities or locations, joining rival Walmart in trying to address growing concerns over targeted pricing by retailers.
Here are some details:
Target said it also does not adjust prices based on time of day or during periods of high demand
Prices could vary based on local costs, pricing regulation, competition and store or channel-specific discounts, but would be the same for all customers on the same platform or location, the company said
The company's loyalty program, Target Circle, gathers customer shopping history to promote relevant deals and offers, but does not raise prices, Target said
This month, Walmart WMT.O has also released statements denying claims that it used technology such as digital shelf labels and AI tools such as its chatbot Sparky to deploy dynamic pricing
