ISTAT releases June CPI final data (0800 GMT) and May foreign trade data (0900 GMT).

Italy will invoke national security considerations in its reply to European Union authorities who have challenged the terms the government set to clear UniCredit's bid for smaller lender Banco BPM, the Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Tuesday, speaking to newspaper Corriere Adriatico.

Scope ratings on Tuesday upgraded its rating on the northern Italian bank to BBB+ from BBB, and revised the outlook to stable from positive

The construction group said on Wednesday its U.S. unit Lane had been awarded a new $337 million project contract to widen and modernize the Interstate 85 in Gaston County, North Carolina, in the United States.

The likelihood of a new country joining the British, Italian and Japanese project to develop a fighter jet is diminishing, said a BAE Systems executive, amid long-held speculation Saudi Arabia could become a fourth partner.

     The project, called Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), is being led by BAE Systems BAES.L in Britain, Leonardo in Italy and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 7011.T in Japan.

The Italian Serie A club issued a statement on Tuesday strongly denying reports and rumours that its owner Claudio Lotito was considering selling his majority stake.

Rome, trade union CISL's 20th congress starts (0900 GMT); ends on July 19. On Wednesday expected attendees include EU Commission Vice President Raffaele Fitto, European Parliament Vice President Pina Picierno, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti.
