Tokyo Steel keeps product prices unchanged in June

TOKYO, May 19 (Reuters) - Tokyo Steel Manufacturing 5423.T, Japan's top electric-arc furnace steelmaker, said on Monday it will keep steel product prices steady in June to help the market stabilise by allowing recent price cuts to be fully absorbed.

In May, the company lowered prices for some steel products, including its main H-shaped beams, following reductions for other items in April.

In June, prices for steel bars, including rebar, will remain at 85,000 yen ($585) a metric ton, while H-shaped beams will stay at 112,000 yen ($771) a ton.

Overseas markets are experiencing oversupply, with international conditions remaining sluggish. Domestic demand for construction steel is weak due to project delays amid high costs, while the steel sheet market also continues to stagnate, the company said in a statement.

Tokyo Steel's pricing is closely watched by Asian rivals such as South Korea's Posco 005490.KS and Hyundai Steel 004020.KS, and China's Baoshan Iron & Steel Co Ltd (Baosteel) 600019.SS.
