NVIDIA is reportedly close to finalizing a $30 billion investment in OpenAI, as the chipmaker moves to take a stake in one of its largest customers. That's according to a source speaking to Reuters. They said the investment is part of a fundraising round in which OpenAI is seeking more than $100 billion. It would value the ChatGPT maker at about $830 billion and amount to one of the largest private capital raises on record. Reuters previously reported that SoftBank Group and Amazon are also likely to take part in the round. The investment would show growing links among major technology companies as they race to build advanced AI systems. It's led to chip suppliers, cloud providers, and model developers deepening financial and strategic ties. NVIDIA declined to comment when contacted by Reuters. The person said OpenAI is set to use much of the fresh capital to purchase NVIDIA's chips. They power the training and deployment of its AI models. The Financial Times reported NVIDIA's new investment would replace a commitment it announced in September. It had previously said it would invest up to $100 billion to support OpenAI's use of its chips in data centers.
