    POLITICS
    Italy will scrap part of its plans to facilitate cash
payments for goods and services after criticism from European
Union authorities, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on
Sunday.
    The European Central Bank's interest rate policy is damaging
Europe's economy and helping Russia undermine Western solidarity
for Ukraine, the Italian defence minister said on Friday.
    Over the weekend Crosetto reiterated his criticism to daily
la Stampa, and critical comments towards the ECB were also made
by Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and, in an interview in
Il Sole 24 on Sunday, by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
    On Saturday, Giorgetti said the prospect of subsequent hikes
in interest rates was worrying for highly indebted countries
like Italy. He also urged the European Union to give a strong
and strategic response to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act
(IRA), which he said was posing threats to the national economy.

    Prosecutors in Milan have requested that four people being
investigated in a probe over the classing of impaired loans at
Monte dei Paschi di Siena be sent to trial, the prosecutors'
office said in a statement on Friday. A copy of the
investigation's file seen by Reuters showed those under
investigation include current Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo
and the current Chairman of Banco BPM Massimo Tononi.

MediaForEurope NV vehicle has notified the Austrian competition
authority about the "acquisition of de facto sole control of
