    POLITICS
    Italy's foreign ministry summoned the Iranian ambassador on
Thursday to demand the immediate release of reporter Cecilia
Sala, who was seized in Tehran on Dec. 19 while working under a
regular journalistic visa.

    ECONOMY
    ISTAT releases Q3 Deficit/GDP ratio data (0900 GMT).
    
    Italy posted a state sector budget surplus of around 8
billion euros ($8.2 billion) in December compared to a shortfall
of 407 million euros in the same month of 2023, the Treasury
said on Thursday.
    The aggregate budget deficit for the whole of 2024 came in
at 124.9 billion euros.

    STELLANTIS  STLAM.MI  
    Car sales in Italy fell 4.93% year-on-year in December, 
Transport Ministry data said. Stellantis had a 23.25% share of
the Italian car market in December, down from 24.86% in
November, according to a Reuters calculation.
