    Elon Musk said on Monday he was ready to provide Italy with
secure communication services after Prime Minister Giorgia
Meloni denied that the issue had come up during a weekend visit
to the United States.
    
    Iran said on Monday the detention of an Iranian national in
Italy at the request of the U.S. amounted to hostage-taking.

    ECONOMY
    ISTAT releases November unemployment rate data (0900 GMT)
and December flash CPI and HICP data (1000 GMT).
    
     The Italian service sector returned to growth in December,
recovering from November's brief period of contraction, although
new business declined for a second month in a row, a survey
showed on Monday.
    
    DEBT
    Treasury announces sale of 12-month BOT bills, with relative
amounts to be auctioned on Jan. 10.

    Telecom Italia (TIM) is expected to take a decision before
the end of the month on the sale of its subsea cable unit
Sparkle, two sources close to the matter told Reuters.
