Waste Management misses quarterly revenue estimates on weak volumes

April 28 (Reuters) - Waste Management WM.N missed Wall Street estimates for first-quarter revenue on Tuesday, hurt by weak volumes in its waste collection business.

Here are some details:

Shares of the Houston, Texas-based company fell marginally after-hours trading.

Alongside municipal waste departments, WM and Republic Services RSG.N are two major companies that lead garbage collection across significant regions of the U.S.

Volumes in the company's collection and disposal business fell 1.5% year-over-year, hit by harsh winter weather and intentional shedding of lower-margin residential business.

Its total revenue for the quarter ended March 31 came in at about $6.23 billion.

Analysts had expected revenue of $6.29 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG.

The company posted a quarterly adjusted profit of $1.81 per share, compared with $1.67 per share, a year ago.

Analysts on an average expected $1.74 apiece.
