Australia's Whitehaven Coal posts 3% rise in third-quarter output

April 28 (Reuters) - Australia's Whitehaven Coal WHC.AX reported a 3.4% rise in third-quarter production on Tuesday, supported by stronger volumes at its New South Wales open cut operations. The Sydney-based coal miner reported managed run-of-mine (ROM) coal production of 9.5 million metric tons for the three months ended March 31, compared with 9.2 million tons a year earlier. The results were in line with the Visible Alpha consensus estimate of 9.5 million tons.
