NEW YORK, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Deliveries of raw sugar on the expiry of the October contract on the ICE exchange were seen at 28,574 lots, or 1.45 million metric tons, according to preliminary information from two sugar traders on Wednesday, when the contract expired.
Singapore-based commodities trader Wilmar International WLIL.SI was said to be the sole receiver of all that sugar, while Brazilian commodities trader BTG Pactual Commodities was seen as the largest deliverer with 9,267 lots, or 470,790 tons.
ICE will release official data on the delivery on Thursday.
Wilmar has been a regular receiver of exchange sugar in recent years, taking more than 1 million tons in some of the contracts' expirations in both 2024 and 2025.
Its former head of sugar operations, Jean-Luc Bohbot, told Reuters in an interview this month that receiving sugar at ICE was just the most flexible sourcing alternative for the company to fulfill its sales contracts.
In the case of BTG Pactual Commodities, it is the first time the trading arm of Brazilian bank BTG Pactual appears prominently in an ICE sugar expiration.
The bank has been involved in debt restructuring talks with Raizen RAIZ4.SA, Brazil's largest sugar group.
The October delivery, although sizeable, was below volumes seen for that contract in the previous three years.
