BUZZ-Animal health companies rise after screwworm case in Texas Updates
** Shares of animal health companies rise after the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed the detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in a three-week-old calf in Texas
** Zoetis ZTS.N gains 3.7%, Elanco Animal Health ELAN.N jump 2.3%
** Zoetis' doramectin shot has the U.S. FDA's Emergency Use Authorization for prevention and treatment of infestations caused by NWS
** Elanco provides multiple treatment or prevention options for dogs, cats and a variety of livestock to protect against NWS
** NWS is a parasitic fly whose larvae infest the living flesh of warm-blooded animals, causing severe tissue destruction, excruciating pain and rapid death in host animals
** "We would expect ELAN to see a larger benefit given its higher percentage of U.S. livestock revenues, about 20% of total revenues in 2025 compared to about 9% for Zoetis, if the outbreak became severe," says KeyBanc Capital Markets
** Including session's move, ZTS down 36.2%, ELAN up 11.3% YTD
