UPDATE 2-Epic's 'Fortnite' to return on Apple's app store in Australia after antitrust ruling Adds comments on paragraph 2, background on paragraph 5-6, changes headline
Oct 21 (Reuters) - Epic Games said its shooter title "Fortnite" will return to Apple's AAPL.O App Store in Australia on Thursday after a federal court ordered the iPhone maker to open up its iOS operating system, having found it violated competition law.
"The Australian Epic v Apple antitrust remedies ... are a huge victory for consumers and developers," Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said in a post on X.
Apple said it disagreed with many of the court's findings and would seek to challenge them.
"We will request a stay and appeal the outcome to seek a resolution that respects our intellectual property and protects the safe, secure experience that consumers and developers expect from the App Store," an Apple spokesperson told Reuters.
Epic sued Apple in the US in 2020, challenging the iPhone maker's control over transactions in applications that use its iOS operating system and its restrictions on how apps are distributed to consumers.
The dispute has since drawn scrutiny from courts and regulators in a number of markets.
