Aug 26 (Reuters) - U.S. liquefied natural gas company Golden
Pass LNG said this week it will send everyone home from its
Texas facility with Hurricane Laura expected to hit the plant
site Wednesday night.

Hurricane Laura is expected to strengthen into a major
Category 4 storm with sustained winds of 145 mph (233 kph)
before slamming into the Gulf Coast near the Texas-Louisiana
border tonight. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL1N2FS14B
"We are planning to close the site on Tuesday and Wednesday
and possibly Thursday depending on Hurricane Laura’s impact,"
Golden Pass said in a statement.
Separately, Cheniere Energy Inc LNG.A shut its Sabine Pass
LNG export plant in Louisiana, which is located close to Golden
Pass. urn:newsml:reuters.com:*:nL1N2FR16J
Cameron LNG, meanwhile, said it would reduce operations at
its LNG export plant in Louisiana, which is located about 60
miles east of Sabine Pass.
Overall, U.S. LNG exports were on track to fall to 2.8
billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) on Wednesday, their lowest
level since February 2019. One billion cubic feet is enough gas
to supply about 5 million U.S. homes for a day. NGA/
The amount of gas flowing to Cheniere's Sabine Pass fell to
zero for the first time since it started operating in 2016.
Golden Pass started building its three-train project in
mid-2019 and has said it remains on schedule to start the first
liquefaction train in 2024 with Train 2 expected to follow
six-to-eight months later, and Train 3 six-to-eight months after
that.
Golden Pass is owned by units of U.S. oil major Exxon Mobil
Corp XOM.N (30%) and Qatar Petroleum QATPE.UL (70%), the
world's biggest LNG exporter.
Units of McDermott International Inc MDIRQ.PK , Chiyoda
Corp 6366.T and Zachry Group are building the project.
