Colombia coffee crop up 17% in 2024/25, exports rose 12%, says federation

Oct 7 (Reuters) - Coffee production in Colombia, the world's third largest coffee grower, rose 17% in the 2024/25 season that ended in September to 14.87 million 60-kg bags, the local coffee federation FNC said in a statement on Tuesday.

It was the best crop in 33 years, the FNC said, adding that Colombian coffee exports rose 12% to 13.3 million bags in the period.

The good production was a result of renovation of part of the coffee fields, good crop care and normal climate conditions, said FNC Chief Executive German Bahamon Jaramillo.

Colombia also imported 893,000 bags of coffee in 2024/25 and local coffee consumption was stable at 2.25 million bags, the federation said.

"We start now a new season where, due to the natural response of the trees and the climate conditions we had in the first semester, is set to be a smaller crop," said Jaramillo.

Arabica coffee trees tend to have smaller fruit loads in a season following a previous year of large production, as the plants take time to recover.
