Persil maker Henkel's quarterly sales miss expectations on weaker demand (updated)

Adds context in paragraph 3, guidance in paragraphs 4 and 5

Nov 6 (Reuters) - German consumer goods and adhesives maker Henkel HNKG.DE reported an organic 1.4% rise in its third-quarter sales on Thursday, but missed market expectations amid lower industrial demand and subdued consumer sentiment.

Its sales in the July-September period rose to 5.15 billion euros ($6.01 billion), below analysts' average forecast of 5.21 billion euros in a company-provided consensus. The organic growth was also below the consensus figure of 1.7%.

Henkel, the company behind brands like Persil detergent and Loctite glue, has been grappling with weakness in industrial sectors such as automotive and electronics this year, and sluggish demand for personal and home care products amid subdued consumer spending.

The company confirmed its guidance for the full year, and still expects organic sales to grow between 1% and 2% in 2025.

However, CEO Carsten Knobel said that if the overall economic environment does not improve noticeably by the year-end, organic sales growth is expected to come in at the lower end of the guidance range.
