The CEO of the bank and its top two shareholders are under investigation in Milan in relation to the Tuscan bank's takeover of Mediobanca MDBI.MI, two judicial sources told Reuters on Thursday.

The Italian defence and aerospace group on Thursday presented plans for a new multi-layered air defence system, as European countries step up military capabilities to bolster defences against Russia and other threats.

Shares in the engineering group fell sharply on Thursday after a Russian court awarded fertiliser producer EuroChem 171 billion roubles ($2.19 billion) in a lawsuit against Maire's subsidiary Tecnimont.
