POLITICS

Italy is working to adopt a tax on low-value postal packages from non-European countries, politicians said, as part of measures to protect its fashion industry from low-cost foreign imports mostly from China.

The European Union needs to adopt "strong and fast" rules against the invasion of cheap and unregulated products, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Wednesday.

Italy will gradually increase its defence budget once out of a European Union excessive deficit procedure, its defence minister said on Wednesday, as the country prepares to comply with higher NATO spending targets.

Pirelli PIRC.MI Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera said on Wednesday he expected Ferrari's upcoming first fully electric model to do well in Asia but not so much in Europe.

Executive Vice Chairman Tronchetti Provera said on Wednesday an ongoing governance issue with its Chinese investor Sinochem 600500.SS would come to a solution at a certain point in the future, as the Italian government has stated the tyremaker has to be free to develop its technology abroad, including in the United States. "Our Chinese friends have to act accordingly, and they will. I don't know when, Chinese have a different sense of time, but we will solve it," he said.

German media group ProSiebenSat.1 PSMGn.DE cut the upper end of its annual profit guidance on Wednesday, as it reported a fall in adjusted core profit for the third quarter on weak TV advertising sales.
