Italy is working to adopt a tax on low-value postal packages from non-European countries, politicians said, as part of measures to protect its fashion industry from low-cost foreign imports mostly from China.
The European Union needs to adopt "strong and fast" rules against the invasion of cheap and unregulated products, Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said on Wednesday.
Italy will gradually increase its defence budget once out of a European Union excessive deficit procedure, its defence minister said on Wednesday, as the country prepares to comply with higher NATO spending targets.

The Italian bank has drawn a line under its failed acquisition of Banco BPM, CEO Andrea Orcel said on Wednesday, adding investors should "not read too much" into its latest legal challenge against government-set terms for the offer.
UniCredit's accord with Europe's biggest fund manager Amundi AMUN.PA to oversee assets of the bank's clients can extend past its 2027 expiry only if the benefits are mutual, Chief Executive Andrea Orcel said on Wednesday.

German media group ProSiebenSat.1 PSMGn.DE cut the upper end of its annual profit guidance on Wednesday, as it reported a fall in adjusted core profit for the third quarter on weak TV advertising sales. TV group MFE now holds over 75% of the Bavaria-based media group.
