Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's candidate scored a victory in the central region of Marche, vote projections showed on Monday, offering a fresh boost to her nearly three-year-old right-wing government.
ECONOMY
Italy sees this year's budget deficit at 3% of national output (GDP) or slighty below, people familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday, as the government finalises the new multi-year budget plan to be unveiled this week.
Italy and Bahrain said on Monday they had signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing investments and trade worth over one billion euros ($1.2 billion), according to a joint statement between the two nations.

Italy biggest bank's asset management business has reached a reasonable size, the head of the Italian bank's wealth management division said on Monday, when asked about potential interest in a tie-up with rival Generali Investments Holding.

Top managers from Mediobanca will travel to Siena on Tuesday for their first meeting with the top ranks of Monte dei Paschi. Meanwhile the selection process to name Mediobanca's new CEO continues ahead of a board meeting on Friday to pick members for Mediobanca board, up for renewal at the end of October.
MPS has increased its stake in Mediobanca to 86.3%, with the Tuscan bank's share capital now up to 17,978 billion euros, from a previous 15 billion, following the takeover bid, an MPS statement on Monday said.

The Franco-Italian carmaker named its second chief financial officer in less than a year, as CEO Antonio Filosa on Monday promoted the current finance chief of the North America region with whom he has worked closely for 15 years.

Italy's government is working with the tyremaker and its investors to keep the company competitive in all its markets, the prime minister's office said on Monday, as it seeks to resolve a governance feud that has weighed on the company in recent years.
The statement came after Rome determined that Chinese state-backed group Sinochem 600500.SS, Pirelli's largest shareholder did not violate "golden power" measures the government imposed in 2023.

TotalEnergies TTEF.PA will restart its LNG project in Mozambique in 2029, CEO Patrick Pouyanne said on Monday, adding that he expected force majeure to lift in Mozambique very quickly. The Italian oil servicer acts as contractor on the Mozambique LNG project.

Fincantieri's acquisition of Sonsub, Saipem's submarine drone division, will go ahead, but it will have to wait for the completion of the merger between Saipem and Norway's Subsea7, including the planned dual listing on the Oslo market, MF wrote on Tuesday citing sources.
