MSCI warns it may downgrade Bangladesh to 'standalone' status if securities floor price reimposed
MSCI warns it may downgrade Bangladesh to 'standalone' status if securities floor price reimposed June 23 (Reuters) - Global index provider MSCI MSCI.N warned on Tuesday it may downgrade Bangladesh's market status to "standalone" from "frontier" if the South Asian country reimposes floor prices on its listed securities.
The MSCI welcomed Bangladesh's move to remove floor prices - minimum prices below which stocks are not allowed to trade - from all affected securities in its equity market, saying floor prices severely hinder a market's accessibility.
"MSCI cautions that the reintroduction of floor prices on any listed securities would once again severely impair the accessibility of the Bangladesh equity market," MSCI said in its 2026 market classification review statement.
