Peloton hit with $20.5 mln for infringing NEC streaming patent, US jury says By Blake Brittain
July 31 (Reuters) - Peloton PTON.O owes Japanese electronics company NEC Corp 6701.T $20.5 million for violating its patent rights in content-streaming technology, a federal jury in Delaware determined on Friday.
The jury agreed with NEC's argument that Peloton's Bike and Tread exercise equipment infringe a U.S. NEC patent covering improved technology for distributing digital media to multiple devices simultaneously.
NEC first sued Peloton for patent infringement in 2022.
Peloton argued that it did not infringe NEC's patent and that the patent was invalid.
Peloton settled a separate patent dispute over streaming technology with Dish Network for $75 million in 2023.
Spokespeople for Peloton and NEC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The case is NEC Corp v. Peloton Interactive Inc, U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, No. 1:22-cv-00987
For Peloton: Robert Haslam, Richard Rainey and Philip Irwin of Covington and Burling
For NEC: Robert Maier, Jennifer Tempesta, Michael Knierim, Thomas Natsume and Lance Goodman of Baker Botts
