Petrobras lifts November diesel imports to rebuild stocks after refinery maintenance (updated)

UPDATE 1-Petrobras lifts November diesel imports to rebuild stocks after refinery maintenance

Updates with further information, context in bullets

- Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras PETR3.SA will import diesel in November at levels above its average for the year, as it rebuilds inventories after scheduled maintenance shutdowns at some refineries, the company's logistics, commercialization and marketing chief Angelica Laureano told Reuters.

Petrobras has booked 600 million liters of diesel imports for November, or about 125,000 barrels per day (bpd), said Laureano.

  • The company had previously expected little need for November imports after large October purchases, but stronger demand and refinery stoppages changed its outlook

  • Petrobras imported an average 110,000 bpd in the third quarter, its highest quarterly diesel import rate of the year; the average for the first nine months was 103,000 bpd

  • Brazil imports around 30% of its diesel demand, making imports critical for supply security

  • Petrobras expects not to import diesel in December, as demand typically weakens after completion of summer crop planting, said Laureano

  • According to the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers, Petrobras' planned November volumes account for 48% of diesel import contracts booked so far for the month
