HEALTH MINISTER: President Milos Zeman is expected to
appoint Jan Blatny, a deputy director of a large hospital and
specialist in child haemophilia, as the new health minister, the
third since September, as the country suffers one of the world's
worst coronavirus infection outbreaks.
COVID MEASURES TIGHTEN: The Czech government ordered a 9
p.m. curfew as of Wednesday and banned most retail sales on
Sundays as part of tighter measures to curb the spread of novel
coronavirus infections.

COVID-19 STATISTICS: The Czech Republic reported 12,977 new
COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.
The country of 10.7 million has reported a total of 297,013
COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in March. There are
174,965 active cases currently.
Deaths have climbed by 128 to 2,675. The number of
hospitalisations has risen to 6,624, and those in intensive care
number 962.

CEE MARKETS: The Polish zloty and Hungarian forint fell to
their weakest levels since the first wave of the new coronavirus
pandemic on Wednesday and Central European stocks tumbled as
governments weighed tightening restrictions against to fight the
virus.

BUDGET: PM Babis is looking for a legal amendment to soften
budget responsibility rules to run a larger budget deficit and
cut taxes next year despite a drop in revenue due to the
coronavirus pandemic. Experts and opposition say Babis is acting
irresponsibly.

TAX CUT: Parties in the ruling coalition have proposed two
competing tax proposals to parliament. PM Babis wants 15% base
personal income tax rate, while Jan Hamacek who heads a junior
coalition party wants a 19% rate and a larger across-the board
tax deduction.
