Borsa Istanbul short-selling ban lifted in equity market
Borsa Istanbul short-selling ban lifted in equity market GDANSK, June 29 (Reuters) - Borsa Istanbul said on Monday the order-to-trade ratio (OTR) in the equity market has been reset to 5:1 following the end of measures implemented by the Capital Markets Board since the start of Iran war.
According to a statement published on the Public Disclosure Platform, the change took effect on Monday.
The Capital Markets Board had imposed a ban on short selling in Borsa Istanbul's equity market on March 1 after global equities fell amid military tensions involving Israel, the United States and Iran. The ban was subsequently extended multiple times until June 26.
In a note published on Monday, Brokerage Is Yatırım said lifting the short-selling ban was a positive development, indicating that authorities are acting in line with MSCI recommendations.
Last week, index provider MSCI flagged recurring concerns about possible coordinated trading and distorted free-float calculations in Turkey's equity market, warning it may launch a consultation on the country's index treatment if credible progress is absent by November.
